Every summer associate is paired with a partner mentor, including nationally recognized lawyers at the top of their fields, who offer guidance and perspective throughout the program. You'll also work alongside partners, counsel and associates on client matters, building relationships through your assignments and practice activities. Together, these experiences will drive your development while giving you firsthand insight into how accomplished lawyers analyze complex issues, collaborate across disciplines, advise clients and exercise sound judgment.

Mentorship at Weil is structured and part of the everyday experience. Summer associates are supported by partner, counsel and associate mentors, as well as assignment coordinators who help guide your experience, answer questions and connect you with opportunities throughout the summer.

You will also build relationships organically by working alongside lawyers on client matters and participating in practice, office and Summer Program activities. These relationships provide opportunities to ask questions, gain perspective and learn from lawyers at different stages of their careers.

Learning happens both through the work you do and through structured training. Weil offers summer associates training and workshops in areas including legal writing, negotiation and depositions, complemented by opportunities to learn directly from partners, counsel and associates on client matters.

Feedback is an important part of the Weil Summer Associate Program experience. The lawyers you work with, together with your mentors and assignment coordinators, help you understand your strengths, refine your skills and prepare for increasingly sophisticated assignments.

Pro bono is an important part of the Weil experience, and summer associates have opportunities to contribute to pro bono matters alongside Weil lawyers. Depending on your office and available matters, that can include researching legal issues, drafting work product, joining calls or participating in other aspects of an active representation.
