Pro Bono Initiatives and Community Service

The Warsaw office of Weil provides extensive pro bono legal assistance to the community, for which we received the Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year award from Rzeczpospolita in 2017. We have been a key partner of the Strategic Litigation Program, run by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. We provided legal assistance in connection with the establishment of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, and were honored by the museum with a special award for our pro bono work.

In the past year, we continued working on a number of other pro bono matters, including: advising the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation, which maintains the memorial and protects the remains of the concentration camp at Auschwitz; the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra; the Have No Fear Foundation, the only organization in Poland that assists survivors of priest pedophilia; the Specialist People Foundation, dedicated to helping people with autism; students from the Warsaw University of Technology working on the “PW-Sat2” project, the second satellite designed by members of the Students’ Space Association to test out a new and innovative deorbit technology, launched into orbit at the end of 2018 onboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket; the Bator Tabor Foundation, which runs rehabilitation camps for children; the Journalists Association, aimed at the improvement of journalism in Poland; and numerous cases assigned to Weil by the Pro Bono Center, which coordinates pro bono matters between law firms and non-government organizations.
